Today is Sunday! That means we’ve gotten through another week! Today marks Week 21! The following is from my Week 21 email:
Your baby has grown to 8 ½ inches long and weighs 12 ounces.
Your baby’s eyelids have finished forming this week, and he is very busy moving around and swallowing amniotic fluid. You most likely have felt your baby move by this time and have realized that he is not necessarily on the same schedule that you are.
Growth rate is slowing down but organ systems, like digestion, are continuing to mature. A waxy film, called the vernix caseosa, is being produced by your baby's oil glands and covers the skin to keep it supple in the amniotic fluid. Buds for permanent teeth are beginning to form.
And you may or may not know, but today is National Children’s Day. And if you’re one of those twits who say, “Every day is children’s day”, you should be ashamed of yourself. I have heard of this holiday before but never really knew exactly what it was. Believe it or not, after researching on the internet, I still don’t know as much about it as I’d like to. One thing I do know is that it is always backed by the President of the U.S. From what I understand, it is a day set aside for every individual to somehow improve the quality of a child’s life. I guess it could be something as involved as volunteering at a children’s hospital or donating money to a child welfare organization. But in my opinion, it could be something as simple as reading your child a book or taking them to the park.
Baby Tse is not yet here. He will be next year though! We cannot wait to read to him, sing to him, dance with him, take him fun places, etc! I thought I’d share with you my VERY favorite poem that Baby Tse will definitely be familiar with.
I Speak, I Say, I Talk
By Arnold L. Shapiro
Cats purr.
Lions roar.
Owls hoot.
Bears snore.
Crickets creak.
Mice squeak.
Sheep baa.
But I SPEAK!
Monkeys chatter.
Cows moo.
Ducks quack.
Doves coo.
Pigs squeal.
Horses neigh.
Chickens cluck.
But I SAY!
Flies hum.
Dogs growl.
Bats screech.
Coyotes howl.
Frogs croak.
Parrots squawk.
Bees buzz.
But I TALK!

Oh... you gave that book to Rachel and it is one of her favorites! Mine, too... great pictures and such a cute little poem.
