When I was young, we used to do various craft/writing combo type activities. One we often did was called a haiku, or so I thought. After researching haikus, I don’t think that is the word I’m looking for. Anyway, this activity that I don’t know the official name for is pretty common. I would think most people have done it at some point in their lives. You write out a word – like Halloween for example. But you write it vertically like so:
H
A
L
L
O
W
E
E
N
And then next to each letter, you write an adjective to describe Halloween.
H – hair-raising
A – amusing
L – laughable
L – lively
O – odd
W – wacko
E – eery
E – enjoyable
N – nectareous
The goal is to just come up with ONE word per letter to describe the main word. Very often, I remember trying to cheat by using multiple words like writing: “Always a lot of candy” next to the letter “A”. But teachers didn’t approve of that. And when the word is long (like Halloween), it gets pretty challenging. You see the word I used for “N”, huh?! That is a result of using a thesaurus!!! Until today, I’ve never even heard of that word! :)
Since it is October, Halloween is approaching, and it is getting cool outside, I thought I’d do a October/Halloween/cool weather type of blog entry! After digging in more old pictures, I found some funny Halloween pictures I’ll post as the weeks go by. But what I decided to post now is this haiku thing (or whatever it is called) I did as a kid. Unfortunately, there is no date on it. It seems that it was done around the 2nd or 3rd grade though.
When I look at it, I crack up! I used some very interesting words to describe myself. Those who know me real good will find it funny too! Enjoy! :)
