Week 16

We hit our 16th week this past Sunday! I didn't take the time to blog because we've been super busy. But don't worry - the day did not go unnoticed! When I woke up that morning, the very first thing I did was sing "Happy 16th week to me! Happy 16th week to me!!!!" Ray knew exactly what I was doing. A few years ago, my dad called me before I had a chance to call him on his birthday. When I answered the phone, he was singing, "Happy Birthday to me! Happy Birthday to me!" So, of course, what I was doing was making fun of that. But Ray quickly corrected me by saying, "Happy 16th week to US!" :)

Here is some week 16 info:

How big is your baby?
By the end of week 16, your baby is approximately 6 inches and weighs 2 ½ ounces.

What is happening with your baby?
Your baby is preparing himself/herself for a growth spurt over the next several weeks. Your baby’s head is more erect now than it has been in the previous weeks of pregnancy. His/her ears and eyes are situated in their final positions. These three things are giving your baby a more “normal” appearance than he/she has had up to this point.

That's "official" pregnancy info from the American Pregnancy Association website. Now to talk about some changes I've been noticing. Well, first of all, my belly button has a new look every day! It is pretty interesting! At first, I thought it just might be me that is noticing every little change and finding it fascinating, but Ray is too! We have fun examining it! :)

I've noticed that my feet are getting a little swollen. They are not real swollen, but because my feet are usually pretty bony, I can definitely see the swelling. As a matter of fact, it is my right foot that has been acting up. After a good bit of walking, it was tingly and a tad bit sore. But it has been fine the last few days.

And finally, the biggest and funniest change is my size. I'm not used to it! I've been trying to squeeze through spaces that I normally wouldn't have any problem fitting through - only to discover it won't work! I have also been walking through our house, which I'm obviously very familiar with, at the same speed I usually do. Many times, I've turned corners, only to realize I can't cut those corners like I could before. I have been known to bump my arm or even worse, my belly! No worries though...it was just a bump rather than a collision!

As I mentioned in a previous blog, a person is pretty clumsy at this point of pregnancy. Actually, I've always been clumsy. But it is really a problem now! I drop things left and right! I've knocked my big tummy a few times while trying to catch objects I've knocked off a shelf or rhat I've dropped from my hands. Finally, I told Ray that it cannot keep happening! Therefore, from now on, I will be letting everything fall to the floor! Last week, I did just that! I let a bowl crash to the floor! I knew I wouldn't catch it, but I tried to break the fall some. As a result, I got a little cut on my finger, but it wasn't a big deal. Then, when I was in the dressing room this weekend trying on maternity clothes, I was regripping the hanger to hang something back up. Can you guess what I did? During the maneuver, I lightly poked myself directly in the belly button! It didn't cause a lot of pain, but it definitely didn't feel good! I know, I know! I need to be more careful! But again, there is no reason to worry! I honestly do not believe the baby was anything more than annoyed! I just hope he/she is saying things like "Hey, watch it!" rather than the more harsh things his/her mom says! ;)
