It happened!

Yesterday, I talked to two people I haven’t talked to in a while – our Aunt Diana and the receptionist at our vet office. I was telling both of them that we’re almost 17 weeks along and that I should experience “quickening” any day now. Jennifer, the girl at our vet office, said, “I felt it in my 3rd or 4th month!” I said, “Wow! That’s early!” She said, “Yeah, well, I felt it because I was sleeping on my stomach. I’ve always been a stomach sleeper. It was hard for me not to do that!” I said, “Oh really? I’m not a stomach sleeper. I’m a side sleeper for the most part. Although, I have been waking up in the morning to find myself on my back”. Obviously, her little girl was getting crushed when her mommy was sleeping on top of her! When I wake up through the night to go to the bathroom, I’m on my side like so.

But for some reason, when I wake up the final time each morning, I’m on my back. I need to find a way to stop that because Ray and I have both read that it can cause the mom and baby to stop breathing. But of course, that is the worst case scenario. I know I can get a handle on it before something like that happens.

The update on Ray is that he is not feeling any better. He felt rotten all day. And his evening wasn’t any better. It sucks watching someone you love feeling so horrible. Again, he told me he will leave work early today (after he gets out of an important meeting) if he isn’t feeling better. I really hope he holds true to that. But while Ray was having one of the worst evenings he’s had in a while, I had my best!

I experienced quickening!!!!! Yes, I felt Baby Tse move!!!! :) We were lounging on the couch at about 8:30 last night. Ray was watching the Miami Dolphins vs. Pittsburgh Steelers game. I was writing in one of my baby journals. I felt a very quick movement slightly on the lower right side of my tummy! At first, I kinda thought it felt the way your stomach feels when it growls out of hunger or rumbles when trying to process food. But when that happens to me, it always occurs on my left side. Also, I had just finished supper and a snack. I was full, and my stomach wasn’t at all upset. I looked up at Ray and said, “HEY!” Not knowing if I was talking to him or the dogs, he didn’t say anything. I said, “HEY!!!” He looked over and said, “Oh, HEY!” I said, “Maybe I’m crazy, but I think I just felt them move!” Of course, like everyone else, he fussed at me for saying “them”. I have no idea why everyone insists on thinking of more than one baby when I say “them”. I’ve been saying “them” from the beginning! Anyway, I corrected myself by saying Baby Tse. Ray got up and came to feel my tummy! Of course, he/she was finished adjusting themselves, doing a back flip, or whatever they were doing. Ray was excited! But since he was feeling so bad, I know he didn’t show as much excitement as he normally would. He even apologized because he felt so bad, which was not at all necessary.

A few minutes later, he asked me what it felt like. I told him what I first thought it felt like. But I thought of a better description. I told him that it felt like a flutter. He smiled and said, “That’s great, baby.” I said, “Well, it was maybe more like an internal tickle, but it wasn’t the ha-ha kind…” He looked a little confused, said, “O-kay”, and let out a laugh. I said, “That might not make sense to you, but it does to me”. He said, “How long did it last?” I said, “Maybe 2 or 3 seconds – if that”.

A little later, we decided to go to bed. Ray needed some rest, and I was tired myself. Once we got settled in bed, I laid there thinking about our little one. I wondered what he/she is doing right now. I tried to guess whether they were tired and ready to turn in like me or if they were planning on staying up all night. As I lay there thinking about Baby Tse, I felt him/her move again! But this time, it wasn’t in the same spot. It was more to the left. Also, it wasn’t a delicate little flutter. Because he/she is only 6 inches long, it wasn’t at all uncomfortable. However, I could tell that this wasn’t a slight movement of an arm or a leg…it was definitely a kick or a punch! :) I told Ray. He told me how great it was and in less than ten seconds, he was snoring. My poor husband who thought he wouldn’t be able to fall asleep, did. He was getting the rest he so needed. And, I felt our baby move for the first time. I laid there thinking about how good the day was. :)

That is super exciting! I still remember when I first felt that "flutter" with you! What a happy time! I hope Ray feels better or he should listen to his Dad and go to the doctor.

You will feel more and more movements as time goes by. Not long from today, you can tell which part of Baby Tse is moving. My experience is that I could tell it is their little round fist, their big butt, their effort to turn around and so on.
So excited to know Baby Tse growing fast and active. Love you Baby Tish.
