Well, I talked to my grandfather yesterday. My aunt made it through her surgery just fine. But the bad thing is that they didn't find a thing, even after calling in a second lung specialist. Because information is coming from my uncle, to my grandfather, and then to me, information got a little mixed up. The fluid around her heart that was there a few weeks ago does not exist anymore. It is under control. I was relieved to hear that good news. The fluid situation that is out of control is with her lungs. Fluid is surrounding her lungs. She also has some fluid IN her lungs. While the doctors were exploring in there yesterday, they decided to go ahead and vacuum in and around her lungs to get that fluid out. When she woke up, she felt like most people do after surgery, but she felt much better not having all that fluid there. The doctors decided they will keep her until at least Friday. On Friday, they will determine whether or not they want to keep her. From what I understand, she is really biting at the bit to go home. And I guess the doctors won't hold her unless they feel they can do something for her there that they can't do while she is at home. In my opinion, they need to keep her there. If fluid builds up too much, she could have have major problems with breathing. But what do I know...I'm just a concerned relative...not a "doctor". The other thing the doctors mentioned is maybe sending her home with that tube in her side (the one she has now). It will continue to drain her fluid. That just sounds miserable, being at home and with a tube in your side/attached to a bag. And finally, surgery was mentioned. If the fluid continues to be excessive, they will have to consider it. But as of now, that is not something they want to do. They do not think she is strong enough to go through another big surgery after recently having that heart surgery. It isn't necessarily a matter of how old SHE is. They said it doesn't really matter your age. No one is really up for two major surgeries like that - back to back. That's basically the scoop. If I get more updates, I will blog again.
