週 二十五 (Week 25)

Week 25 info:

Your baby has definite alert and resting periods now. He’s still much skinnier than he’ll be at birth, but he continues to fill out. By the end of this week he’ll probably weigh about 1 ½ pounds.

His eyes are open now, perhaps even blinking and closing when he sleeps.

If you could peek at your baby now and not again until delivery, you’d be able to recognize him, for a six-month-old fetus looks like a miniature of the newborn he will become. :)

I got the above information from a book and a magazine I’ve been reading. But since I wanted more info and was having difficulty finding it, I opened Ray’s The Expectant Father book. Here’s what I found...oh, and my comments are in italics.

What’s Going On with Your Partner:

Physically

Period of greatest weight gain begins
Bring it on, baby!

Increased sweating
I only notice this in my palms.

Increased blood supply gives her that pregnant “glow”; it may also be giving her some sciatica or even carpal tunnel syndrome as all the extra fluid compresses some of her nerves
I sure hope it gives me a “glow”. I know it has definitely given me some sciatica!

Swelling of hands and feet
I haven’t noticed this much. And when I do, it is my right foot.

Fatigue, dizziness, and a runny nose are not uncommon
Fatigue and runny nose, yes.

A constant, nagging backache – especially if she’s carrying twins or more
…or if she is carrying your big-headed baby boy! ;)

Some incredibly bizarre food cravings
As much as my mom has joked with me about the “pickles and ice cream” thing, I haven’t had any bizarre cravings!

Emotionally

Moodiness is decreasing
Let’s verify this with Ray! ;)

Continued forgetfulness and even some short-term memory loss
Forgetfulness has always been a thing with me. Also, clumsiness is worse than ever! Just this week alone, I’ve made several food messes (because I can't hold on to anything), broken a glass dish, pulled so hard on a cabinet handle that it came completely off (and stripped the drilled hole), AND pulled so hard on the plug to our steamer that the connector thing snapped! This mom-to-be is clumsy but has SUPER strength! :)

Feeling that the pregnancy will never end
I’m really enjoying being pregnant! It is more fun than I ever imagined. But sometimes I do think about having 3 more months and think, “Oh my god”.

Increased bonding with the baby
Ray and I are both doing a lot of bonding with our little boy. He does a good bit of moving, especially at night, which is the perfect time for him to be the center of attention. Just about every night, he is more entertaining than whatever we’re watching on TV. :)

Still very dependent on you
I am very dependent on Ray for support – physical and emotional. I know it is a very demanding job, probably more than he envisioned. But Ray is doing an awesome job! Like my friend told me when she was pregnant, you can’t help but think of single mom-to-be’s who have no choice but to go it alone. I cannot imagine what that is like. I’m lucky Ray is so thoughtful and caring. And I have no doubt that he’ll be just as good of a dad as he is a dad-to-be. :)
